The Columbian Theatre
Wamego, KS 66547
Haunting reports at this theater include lights that turn on and off by themselves, props that move on their own, and the sound of moans, groans, and someone unseen climbing the stairs. Stories say there is an underground tunnel that lead to an old mansion in town, as well as the morgue.

Both me and members of my family have been to this theater many times. My sister frequently plays roles in musicals there, and I worked backstage in one of them. I know there are plenty of rumors about this particular location being haunted, and I can neither confirm nor deny them. I've heard plenty of tales about how the basement used to be a morgue, which is why I'm on this website, I wanted to confirm those stories... But so far I can't find anything definitive. My sister told me about a time or two where she was in the dressing room I'm the theatre alone, and she heard noises like people walking (or maybe people talking I'm not sure) but when she came out no one was there. While I've never had any specific *haunting* experiences there the basement is very creepy, and so is the backstage, but it's an old theatre, so I guess that's expected.

The Columbian Theatre is haunted as are many other buildings in Wamego Kansas. I worked in Wamego for several years as a newspaper reporter back before the theatre was restored. I grew up close to Wamego. I would not have believed it myself if I had not gone on several paranormal searches here and seen and heard what I have personally experienced. Footsteps on the stage; a white mist exiting the stage, and the basement has a shadow person, but he is friendly. Many artifacts have been brought into the building from area residents to use as stage props, clothing has been donated for costumes, all of this could have attachments. It is a great and non-evil experience and truly haunted.

Did volunteer work here in the mid 90's there was no haunting here. Also there is no tunnel going to theater. The tunnle myth was a old myth about a tunnel that ran from the Dentist house (Dr. Ditto) to the Stewarts funeral home not the theater.
