Stories say that about five miles south of Barnes on the east side of Coon Creek Bridge, a ghostly little girl can be spotted walking through the woods, mostly right before sunrise. Her identity is unknown.

  • The girl at Coon Creek Bridge.

Hello. A friend of mine's family is from Barnes, Kansas. When his father was a child, I'm guessing in the 1930s, he and his sister were visiting friends at a house on the other side of Coon Creek Bridge. These kids often walked across the bridge to go visit friends. One time, when they were visiting, they played a game with a candle on the floor of a bedroom. The kids danced around the candle, but unfortunately, the young sister's dress caught on fire and she burned to death. Right there in front of the other children. Terrible story, which traumatized my friend's dad his whole life. We are wondering if the little girl seen near the bridge could be the spirit of my friend's aunt. I think I got all the facts right, but If you would like more details, please contact me at my email address. Michael
