Fort Hays was a U.S. Army Post that was once known as Fort Fletcher, and was active from 1865-1889, used during the American Indian Wars. It opened as a historical park in 1929, and is believed to be haunted by a ghost known as the Blue Light Lady. Stories say she was a woman named Elizabeth Polly, who died in 1867 of cholera while she has been taking care of the sick during a cholera epidemic. Her body was buried nearby and her apparition has been spotted around the fort.
